Naomi Osaka fired 13 aces as part of her 25 winners and struck just three unforced errors, rolling over ninth seed Danielle Collins, 6-2, 6-1, for her first-ever Miami semifinal. She did not face any breakpoints during the 60 minutes, while her opponent continued to struggle with neck pain.
Belinda Bencic also dropped just three games in her quarterfinal and squashed Daria Saville, 6-1, 6-2, in 69 minutes, making it her most efficient performance of the campaign. It was a relief since she had lost her last seven quarterfinals, including in Sydney and St. Petersburg this year.
